If your child needs to have a tooth extracted (removed), the dental care needed to treat it extends past the dentist’s office. Proper aftercare is just as important as the procedure itself to make sure that your child heals quickly and avoids any infection.
Check out these tips for aftercare before you head to your child’s appointment, and follow any advice the dentist gives you.
Here are some tips to keep in mind as your child heals from a tooth removal:
There are many reasons why your child’s dentist may choose to extract a tooth. When you take your child in for an extraction procedure, the dentist will numb the area and remove the tooth, leaving your child with a hole, or socket, where the tooth used to be.

The symptoms of a dry socket include:
If you think your child has dry socket, contact your child’s dentist right away for treatment.
After your child’s tooth extraction procedure, your dentist will probably want to see your child again for a follow-up visit to check on the healing process. After a few days, your child should start feeling normal again.
